Sorry to hear this and thanks for your very thorough post. As you seem to be familiar with using the Arduino IDE could you possibly give the example sketch in the first post of this thread a try:

http://forum.hobbycomponents.com/viewto ... =73&t=1956

Just cut and paste it to the IDE and upload it to your EDTracker. Next open up the serial monitor (Tools->Serial Monitor) and in the window that opens up make sure the BAUD rate (bottom right corner of the window) is set to '9600 Baud'.

The sketch should continuously output raw data from the MPU9250. Check if the values change when you rotate the EDTracker.

This is a simplified sketch an will help rule out one or two possibilities.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response.
I just gave it a go, but still no luck, unfortunately.
After a few minutes, an output appeared stating "Temp:", but that's all - no matter how much I move it around, there is simply no other output.

I've uploaded the following screenshot to the same folder of Google Drive:

"hobbycomponents sketch.PNG"

Kind regards

Thanks for checking. The sketch should continually output readings from the MPU9250. From your results it looks like it's either a problem with the MPU9250 itself, or the connection form the Pro Micro to it. I doubt the problem is with the Pro Micro. I know you have already double checked the connections but it's worth checking them one last time. If you still don't see anything then can you send an email to sales (at) hobbycomponents.com and just reference this thread. We can sort out the issue from there.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the support so far. I unsoldered completely and soldered back the MPU, it made no difference what so ever.
Again, no reading at all. I'll email sales now.

Many thanks for your time.

No Power on MPU 9250

Post by tom petersen » Wed May 08, 2019 4:29 am

Thanks for your excellent service in completing my ED Tracker bundle order. I completed assembly of the pro micro and MPU 9250 and did an ok job with a new soldering pen. However the power led on the MPU 9250 will not light when plugged into a USB port. Power led is lit on the pro micro, but no power light for the MPU. Duff MPU? The unit will not calibrate after flash. My solder connections look good. Need some help here. This is my second ED tracker. Built one a couple years ago on a breadboard with wired connections. Worked great until the mini usb connector came loose. This assembly was so much easier with the PCB, but the MPU shows no power. Am not using the switch on this unit.

Thanks, and sorry to hear this....

The 9250 version doesn't actually have a power LED, it's just the GY-512 version that has the LED so I wouldn't worry about that bit but there is obviously an issue somewhere.

The unit will not calibrate after flash.
Even though the calibration process fails so you get any readings from the MPU9250?

Finally, can I just sanity check that you are flashing the correct firmware. For the MPU9250 it will be this one...

Thank you for your kind reply. Yes I was using the correct sketch and with the knowledge that there is no led indication that the MPU is functioning I began to suspect my workmanship. In daylight (I assembled the device at night) I could see that I had missed a couple pads on the pro micro. That corrected, it works like a champ and calibrated easily. Thanks again.

Hi everybody,

I can see a footprint for diode, a fuse, a resistor and some other stuff.

As far as I know rev3 has been designed to allow the final user to add a couple of components to get IR tracking working in addition to gyro/magneto tracking.

I assume that V3.1A is designed in the same purpose, but cannot find any schematic anywhere. Can somebody explain what are the specifities of Rev3.1A or point me to a schematic?

Thanks a lot.

Yes that's correct.

V3.1A (our version) is identical to V3. The only significant difference is we've updated the screenprint to make it clearer which side of the PCB to mount the components too, and added a hole to the switch footprint which can be used to mark where to drill the hole in the case. Other than that it's the same.

or point me to a schematic?
I've now added the V3.1A schematic to the first post.

Great!
I understand much better now... I was wondering what was the role of the diode and the two more pins but the schematic makes everything really clear now. I will check that with my multimeter this evening.

Thanks a lot!!!
