Re: Pic - K150 ICSP Programmer (HCDVBD0002)
I have logged on to this forum for the first time, can someone point me to the link to download the K150 software.
Many thanks.
Andy.

You can find the link in the first post of the thread. Just look under the heading 'Windows software':

Andrew,
Many thanks, the software for programming is downloaded OK but the driver software for the PL2303 seems to be rather complex to get loaded and running. There is a youtube video but without a dual screen PC it's tricky to get through it.
Any advice would be most welcome.
Andy.

If Windows has automatically installed a driver, or you have installed one from a different source you’ll first need to completely remove it. You can do this by following these steps:
1) Find the entry for the K150 in Windows device manager which will be listed as something like ‘Prolific-USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COMxx).
2) Right click it and select ‘uninstall device’.
3) This bit is very important - In the window that opens up make sure the ‘Delete the driver software for this device’ is checked.
4) Click the ‘Uninstall’ button
5) When the device has been removed unplug the K150 from your computer and reconnect it
If you see the driver reinstall itself then repeat steps 2 to 5 again until Windows stops automatically installing the driver.
Once you have successfully removed the existing/broken driver, download the one from the first post of this thread under the title ‘Unofficial driver’.
It should download a zip file called ‘Prolific_Windows_10_Driver.zip’
Unzip it and run the ‘PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v1.2.10.exe’ file.
This should then automatically install the correct driver.

Andrew,
No luck, I'm afraid, following your instructions to the letter. I just get "unknown USB device" in the device listing, it doesn't even say incorrect driver, although it does give the option to delete it, which I do.
Win 10 device listing seems to be dumbed down compared with earlier OS so you can't see what's really going on.
I was originally installing a later version 4.0.1 but now with the version you suggest it's just the same. I am strongly suspecting that I have broken hardware.
Any other suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks,
Andy.

Try following these steps to confirm if your USB interface is working properly:
1) Open up device manager and find the entry for the K150
2) Right click it and select properties
3) In the window that opens up click the 'Details' tab
4) In the 'Property' drop down selection select 'Hardware IDs'
5) In the 'Value' box there will be a USB VID and PID value. They should be 067B & 2303 respectively:
USB\VID_067B&PID_2303&REV_0300
USB\VID_067B&PID_2303

Re: Pic - K150 ICSP Programmer (HCDVBD0002)
Andrew,
I think there's a hardware problem because in the drop-down list for USB devices I get "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)"
I think it's time to contact the supplier of my K150 programmer and ask for a replacement.
I appreciate all the advice you have given me over this issue and it will certainly help if I can get some working hardware.
Cheers,
Andy.
