Thanks very much Andrew. I was hoping to be able to plug into the USB port on the pedal as that would enable me to create an add-on option for the user. I'm part of a small team who are designing the pedal (I wrote the Firmware and the Python apps), and the hardware is pretty much finalised so I didn't want to make any changes if it could be avoided as our hardware designer bod would be a bit miffed!

IIRC the mega has 4 serial interfaces. We are using one for the CH340 and one for MIDI so there probably are a couple spare but there is very little room left on the enclosure to add another socket to plug in the Bluetooth module. It would have been neat to have a Bluetooth option that would just go in the USB-C socket as users could have controlled the pedal using their phones or tablets, perhaps.

As I mentioned the pedal does have a full MIDI implementation and by using a WIDI Jack from CME I am able to control and adjust every setting on the pedal by Bluetooth so that is probably our best option.
