Arduino Ethernet W5100 Network Shield (HCARDU0034)
Re: Arduino Ethernet W5100 Network Shield (HCARDU0034)
OK, I went to my parents place for the weekend and tried it out here, and tadaaa, it works! Something about my router, I guess...
Re: Arduino Ethernet W5100 Network Shield (HCARDU0034)
Odd, there's no obvious reason why it wouldn't work with a particular model of router. The example sketch in this thread uses a fixed IP and so doesn't need to communicate with the routers DHCP server either. You many want to try some other type of network device on the same cable and port to rule out any problems with that.

Received shield today and experiencing problems as previously described.
Loaded known to be working sketch. Board powered from usb but also tried external power source
Shield is on a UNO. Connected to Sky Hub with good cable. The Sky hub logs show a Link Up followed immediately by Link Down as follows:
Dec 14 12:21:17 syslog: [1490747.662000] eth1 (Int switch port: 0) (Logical Port: 0) Link UP 100 mbps full duplex
Dec 14 12:21:18 syslog: [1490748.713000] eth1 (Int switch port: 0) (Logical Port: 0) Link DOWN
IPv4 Address: 192.168.0.27, IPv4 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0, I have tried 192.168.0.55 along with a number of unused combinations.
Pwr light – on, Fulld light - flashing about once per second and the amber light by the gnd pin – on
I know the Sky Hub router has a number of issues and support is virtually non existant and I wonder if this is another issue with this router. Maybe I should try a wifi card, any suggestions re compatibility etc?

Re: Arduino Ethernet W5100 Network Shield (HCARDU0034)
It's certainly one possibility. In a couple of cases where we've been able to work with the customer to remotely confirm there is a problem, when we've got the shield back and tested it on our own network we find it works without any problems. This could point towards a compatibility issue with certain routers but instances of this problem are very low in comparison to how many are sold so if that was the case we'd expect to see it reported a lot more than we do. It could simply be of course that you may have a faulty shield. I notice that you have emailed us directly so I'll send you a reply.
