Re: R16-504BD 16mm Push Button Switch (Yellow) (HCSWIT0038)

Hi Andrew, Maybe a silly question but not seeing anything in the description that these switches are lighted but reading that there is an LED in the switch, can you confirm if a current limiting resistor is built in or does one need to be added in the supply circuit? Todd p.s. I see on the other for...

Re: 4x4x4 Version 2 LED Cube kit Build Guide

I have built two of the V2 kits already after building 5 V1 kits and one of the 8x8x8 provided by HC and love the outcome. The upgrades to this design are much appreciated and have resulted in two perfect launches without need for any tweeking or adjustments. Nice addition to the patterns as well. T...

Re: Hobby Components 4x4x4 64 LED cube kit (HCKITS0041 to 44)

So, just finished my second 4x4x4 board build. LEDs soon to come. Added a .125" spacer between the base LEDs and the board made from the outer white jacket off some hook up wire so the LEDs didn't sit on the tips of the pins. Helped to keep them even and dressed them up a little. Can't wait to finis...

Re: Hobby Components 8x8x8 Cube Kit (HCKITS0050)

Well, I'm baffled. Or maybe I'm a chip killer, who knows. I'm afraid to risk bricking or messing up my original so maybe best to leave good enough alone at least until I get a new chip or two without bootloaders on them to start fresh. Don't worry about bricking it, it's not possible to do that wit...

Re: Hobby Components 8x8x8 Cube Kit (HCKITS0050)

When you upload using your programmer and the 'Upload using programmer' method in the ARduino IDE (which is uploading via the ICSP interface) you can only either upload a sketch or the bootloader, but not both. When you upload one it overwrites the other. So if you uploaded a sketch into the IC usi...

Re: Hobby Components 8x8x8 Cube Kit (HCKITS0050)

No, I didn't know about the "Old Bootloader" trick. I gave it a try but no luck. I tried swapping RX & Tx as shown on Sparkfun FTDI Basic site also still not apparent communication. See a few flashes of RX/Tx LEDs on the FTDI then nothing for a period then a single flash that repeats with a long del...

Re: Hobby Components 8x8x8 Cube Kit (HCKITS0050)

I think the problem with searching for more patterns is that every cube will be of a different design and so any patterns, if available, won't be compatible with other cubes. In fact a lot of the 'off the shelf' cube kits aren't even Arduino based. I think the most useful thing you can get out of s...

How to improve HC Service

I don't know how to improve HC Service but in my opinion Andrew should get a bonus for answering all my questions so kindly. :-)

Re: RepRap Mega Pololu Compatible Shield - RAMPS (HC3DPR0002)

Thanks again!
Ah the three pin next to the reset is an input not an out then.
To get up and running I will use the supplied step down adapter and plug into the 12V fan pins just to be safe.

Todd

p.s. fan draws 105 mA per the data sheet. This might be more in line.

Re: RepRap Mega Pololu Compatible Shield - RAMPS (HC3DPR0002)

Hi Andrew, I picked up a 5V fan for a new hot end and I'm curious where best to connect to the RAMPS board if there is a suitably rated 5V pin like those on the servo rails or the one near the poly fuses that could be used instead of having to step down the 12V supply currently used to power the fan...
