Description:

This module uses two L293D drivers to control up to 4 DC motors, or 2 stepper motors. The module also provides a convenient pass through for 4 standard servo's.

PLEASE NOTE: This module has an on board 5V regulator. Do not exceed a maximum of 750mA as you will risk blowing the regulator and causing damage to any components connected to the 5V supply.

Would I be correct in assuming it uses the L293D and NOT L298N ?

Thanks for spotting this. It seems the manufacturers spec is wrong. I have now corrected it.

hi,
on the drawing showing the pin position where it shows which pins need to be energized you have:-

motor 1 using EN1 IN1 IN2
motor 3 using EN3 IN5 IN6
motor 3 using EN3 IN5 IN6
motor 4 using EN4 IN7 IN8

but no motor 2?
i expect it to be:-
motor 1 using EN1 IN1 IN2
motor 2 using EN2 IN3 IN4
motor 3 using EN3 IN5 IN6
motor 4 using EN4 IN7 IN8

or am i wrong?

First of all I want to thank you for the scheme provided: is only one available online !!!

Then I have a couple of question:

what should serve the "aux power supply"?

In my opinion when the power button is pressed it seem completely disconnected, conversely when the power button is high it is practically shorted with Vdd, while the entire board is NOT powered!
Therefore it seems more to an output that provide the vdd to an alternative board (while it is suspending the power supply to this one)!

why in both JP5 (suitable to connect directly a stepper motor) the fifth line is CONNECTED DIRECTLY TO 12 V instead to leave it open or to connect to GND ???????
I connected my Stepper motors and I risk to damage both of them (and maybe I damage them) !!!

The main purpose of the power button is to connect and disconnect an external supply wired from the VDD & GND terminals to the input of the 5V regulator. I've no idea what purpose the manufacturer intended for connecting these terminals to the DC socket then the switch is in the opposite position. My best guess is that this was not the intention of the original design.

The pinout for the two connectors JP5 and JP7 are laid out to be compatible with the HCMODU0035 stepper motors we sell. These will plug directly into those connectors.

I presume you want to mention HCARDU0035 ... however if you are going to connect it to this module probably you will damage it since the HCARDU0035 motor power supply is 5V while the JP5 and JP7 seems to be connected to drive a 12V stepper motors in a unipolar way.
