Was this issue ever solved.
I have exactly the same issue.

No moving motors.
A small dc voltage of the motor pins.

The motor works.
The serial console shows messages moving the motors.

I2c scanner finds no devices.
Wemos D1 mini
I am using a geared dc motor from ebay. Works when applying voltage directly.

Any ideas ?

Not sure it can be a hardware issue with a few people having the same issue.

Thanks

So far we have not had any confirmed issues with this item and we've not been able to replicate the problem ourselves. If there is some sort of issue we would certainly like to get to the bottom of it. Could you possibly confirm a couple of things:

Does your reported issue happen when you use the example sketch the first post of this thread?

I cant find your details in our system so can I check if the shield was purchased from us? The main reason for asking this is that the shields we sell are genuine WeMos parts but there are clones/counterfeits on the market so it would be useful to establish if you have a genuine WeMos part or not.

Yep I used the sketch at the top off the thread.

I do see i2c traffic on pins d1 , d2 with the scope. I don't think there is any connection issue as I have been over the joints a few times and connected a second different shield to another wemos with the same results.

To be honest the boards may well be clones I have had them a while. Think they were part of a bundle of things I asked for as gifts.
I'm starting to suspect that is the issue as there is not much else to check really. I will try to get a official one.

Thanks

Ok I got it going.

First I had to rewrite the firmware as described here.
https://hackaday.io/project/18439-motor ... rogramming

I also had to desolder the standby pad on the back of the shield so it can be controlled with i2c.

Ah, was just about comment on re-flashing your firmware but looks like you already figured it out. I'm not sure if the firmware in the clones is the same version as in the original WeMos version. As I can't replicate the problem and not yet seen any sold by us with this issue I'd suspect it is different. Glad you managed to solve your problem anyway.

Yes I expect the firmware is different because until I reflashed the i2c scanner could not find any devices.
Thanks for the help.

Hi there,

I was curious to know if I could power the motor shield and the wemos D with the same power supply.

Regards

If your talking about the motor shield itself then this will get its power (3.3V) from the D1. If your taking about powering both the motor shield and the D1 from the motor supply (VM) then I don't believe this is possible without an additional regulator unless of course the supply to your motor(s) is 5V.

I would like to test the driver using a motor and battery. Is that possible?
Reason - test each component individually, and next integrate with Wemos D1 mini
