I have this antenna for connecting to the ESP-07 ESP8266 Serial Wifi Module (HCMODU0107).

I will be using a case for the electronics and intend mounting the antenna to the outside of this case. I wondering whether to use a metal or plastic case, or even a plastic case with a metal front panel, for best performance.

Any recommendations?

RF is a bit of a black art but in my opinion I don't think it will make any difference with regards to performance. The main reason for putting an RF circuit in a metal case is for EMC purposes but I'm guessing this is for a personal project and that's not going to matter.
